Why this isn't a simple multiplier
Unlike an air fryer conversion (which scales fairly predictably with a temperature drop and percentage time cut), converting a fast stovetop or oven recipe to slow cooker time doesn't follow a clean formula — a slow cooker cooks at a much lower, gentler temperature over a much longer stretch, and the relationship between "original time" and "slow cooker time" isn't linear across that whole range. This is why slow cooker manufacturers (Crock-Pot and others) publish bracketed conversion charts rather than a multiplier — a 15-30 minute original recipe maps to roughly 4-6 hours on low, but a 45-minute to 2-hour recipe maps to roughly 8-10 hours on low, a jump that wouldn't come from just multiplying the original time by a constant factor.
Low vs. high — which should you choose?
Low and high settings reach similar final results — low simply takes roughly twice as long as high for a given dish. Low is generally better for tougher cuts of meat that benefit from a longer, gentler breakdown of connective tissue, and it's the safer choice if you're leaving the house for a full workday. High is useful when you're home and want dinner sooner, or for dishes (soups, some vegetables) that don't need the extra tenderizing time low provides.
